Utility Buildings
Whangarei, Helensville, Rodney & all over Northland

Photo of Utility shed In the 1980’s Rod Douglas Construction spent a lot of time with local farmers to really determine what type of shed could meet their needs. We found out that farmers wanted a building that was bird proof, had a long life span, was made from treated timber and had a simple method of construction. So, we incorporated this into our wooden portal buildings. These sheds can still be seen standing strong amongst hundreds of farms in Northland and whether for a boat, storage or workshop are extremely functional. The market of course has changed over the years with the emphasis going away from the traditional half-round hay barn for farmers, to sheds and barns for the lifestyle block owner.

RDC buildings are made from locally sourced renewable pine. They are constructed using a timber portal frame system with the portal legs being constructed from H5 double laminated timber which is concreted into the ground nearly a meter deep. These buildings are built tough and can stand up to the most severe weather conditions. They are easily built with many different configurations and sizes ranging from 7m wide and 7.3m long. Being made from timber means they can me modified and extended without difficulty. Our wooden portal sheds also have many other benefits such as being easy to line, they are much cooler to work in and are much more resistant to fire and heat.

RDC can supply our wooden portal buildings as kitsets or we can erect for you. Our kitset system is extremely easy to follow even by amateurs. They come fully labeled with comprehensive instructions and drawings and we are always just a phone call away.

Because all of our buildings are made in our own factory from locally sourced sustainable building materials it gives us the opportunity to provide replacement products immediately if required.
